‍‍‍‍‍‍A new tourist destination for holidayers will enthrall with beautification,  facilities and ambience with fresh air and soothing and pollution-free atmosphere at Malkam Cheruvu. Come and feel the goodness of good place with pleasure.

There was a time, not long ago, when the lake was filled with debris and algal growth. All sides of the lake had garbage dumps, and mosquitoes swarmed all over. No wanted to be near Malkam Cheruvu. Today, in its rejuvenated glory, it has become a favorite spot to hang out for neighboring families.

Sprawling over 50 acres, Malka Cheruvu is being beautified as one of the best recreation facilities of the city and a speciality of the water body is that the vast expanse of it could be viewed completely from any chosen point of the lake.

The lake which is along the Gachibowli stretch of road is bustling with activity, and it is hard to miss its new-found beauty. The evenings are busy on the lakeside, with the space filled with ice cream bandis, chat bandis, and snack trucks.

The civic authorities have integrated children’s play areas, walking and cycling tracks, a bird island, play lawns, a jetty area, an open gym, an amphitheater, view deck bridges, and a boulder park in the rock boulder conservation zone.

A rather attractive entrance, patches of greenery, and an artificial pond amidst the lake make it more attractive. The entire lake has been fenced, and trees have been planted to add to its scenic beauty. Water hyacinth has been done away with, and inlets and outlets have been improved apart from de-silting the bed.

Aparna Infra Housing partnered with civic authorities as a part of their corporate social responsibility, and the lake was thrown open to the public by MA & UD minister KT Rama Rao.

Hyderabad will soon get a new tourist destination with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) developing Malka Cheruvu in Raidurgam on the lines of popular Durgam Cheruvu.

Sprawling over 50 acres, Malka Cheruvu is being beautified as one of the best recreation facilities of the city and a speciality of the water body is that the vast expanse of it could be viewed completely from any chosen point of the lake.

According to the zonal officials of the civic body, top priority has been accorded to transform this water body as a major tourist destination in the western parts of the city.

The works for Malka Cheruvu commenced in 2017 along with Durgam Cheruvu and is being developed in coordination with Aparna Infra Limited under their Corporate Social Responsibility.

“Once the development works here are completed, the lake is sure to draw visitors from all parts of the city. Since it is located on Mumbai old highway, it has the potential to gain prominence on Hyderabad tourism map,” said a senior official.

It was not an easy task for GHMC to develop this lake as a tourist attraction. In the past, the civic body had cleaned the lake of hyacinth and then constructed sedimentation points. Also, artificial ponds were built separately here for immersion of idols during Vinayak Chaturthi festivities every year.

Officials of GHMC Serilingampally zone said that fencing works around the lake were completed and the inlets and outlets of the water body have been improved. As part of works, the lake was also dug 6 feet so that water is clear and this itself had cost Rs 1 crore, said a senior official.

As part of the overall beautification initiative, a grand entrance is being constructed and works related to it were going on at a brisk pace. A peripheral walkway for 2 km and a cycling track is also being constructed.

“We have so far developed Malka Cheruvu with a cost of Rs 25 crore and all efforts are on to develop this lake on par with Durgam Cheruvu. If everything goes as per schedule, this water body will be ready for inauguration in next three months,” the official said.

The other components adorning the water body include LED lighting and aesthetically designed signboards. The GHMC is also taking up landscaping to add more charm and a proposal has been mooted for setting up an amphitheatre to screen laser shows for children.

Once a neglected and polluted lake, the restored and fully developed Malkam Cheruvu will be thrown open to the public from Tuesday. The lake rejuvenation project was taken up for four years. The restored lake was inaugurated by Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister KT Rama Rao. It is a notified water body in the western part of the city; is situated at Raidurg close to IT Corridor in Serilingampally Mandal of Ranga Reddy district.

According to a GHMC official, the lake has a full tank level area of 51.30 acres. Previously the tank served for an ayacut of approximately 20 acres. Now there is no ayacut. The tank is one of the chain-link tanks of Durgam Cheruvu, Ibrahim Cheruvu and the Musi River. The lake has been restored and developed under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity by Aparna Infra Housing Pvt. Ltd, in coordination with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
