Osmania University Bags 8 Crore DST Special Grant For R&D Scholars

The research and development activity being carried out by the faculty, scholars and students of the Osmania University is reaping good results. Recognizing its research and publications in international journals, the university has been awarded a grant of Rs.8.1 crore under the second phase of Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (PURSE) scheme of the Department of Science and Technology, Union Ministry of Science and Technology.

OU was one among the 14 universities across the country to be selected again for PURSE for maintaining growth rates both in research publications and h-index, which measures both scientific production and impact of a researcher.

Under the first phase of the scheme, the varsity had bagged 59 projects with financial assistance to the tune of Rs.6 crore. While working on the projects, the faculty and scholars had published their research in 110 journals including Plosone, journal of fluorescence and journal of Alloys and compounds among others. In recognition of the research and publications, the university received a total of 63 projects including 24 under Make in India, 24 projects in Swastha Bharat, eight in Start-up India, four in Swachh Bharat and three under Digital Bharat.

Using the grant received in the first phase of the scheme, the university has established an advanced facility for metal analysis and a facility for inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.

“The research activity and infrastructure in the departments has gone up by manifold. Based on the quality research and number of publications of the researchers, the university has bagged more grants from the DST through the PURSE scheme. Grants under Phase Two will be put to use in procuring advanced equipment for research,” said Prof. Shashidhar Rao, Co-ordinator, PURSE scheme and faculty at Bio-Chemistry department, OU.

The grant released in the scheme will be used for augmentation of research infrastructure at the university. Under the initiative, DST is providing financial assistance to acquire research equipment, research man-power, computation facilities, infrastructure, workshops, seminars and conferences among others. #KhabarLive
